Biography
I am currently working in the Division of Stroke, University of Nottingham where I studied stroke recovery and the management of blood pressure in acute stroke as part of my Doctorate of Medicine, Clinical Studies of stroke recovery and potential enhancement with pharmacological intervention or stem cell mobilisation.
Expertise Summary
My current interests include developing treatments to improve recovery after stroke, treatment of haemorrhagic stroke, quality of life after stroke, management of blood pressure after stroke, venous thrombosis prophylaxis after stroke and anti-platelet treatment for the secondary prevention of stroke.
Principal investigator of two small studies: Stem cell Trial of recovery EnhanceMent after Stroke 3 (STEMS 3)- a pilot randomised controlled trial of G-CSF and therapy in chronic stroke and A randomised controlled trial of Tranexamic acid in Intracerebral Haemorrhage (TICH). National coordinator of EuroHyp-1, a European, multi-centre, phase III, clinical trial of hypothermia after stroke.

Current Research
My current interests include developing treatments to improve recovery after stroke, quality of life after stroke, management of blood pressure after stroke, venous thrombosis prophylaxis after stroke and anti-platelet treatment for the secondary prevention of stroke.
I am Principal Investigator of the ongoing RfPB Stem cell Trial of recovery EnhanceMent after Stroke 3' (STEMS 3)- a pilot randomised controlled trial of G-CSF and therapy in chronic stroke and Tranexamic acid in IntraCerebral Haemorrhage TICH phase II trials, and adjudicate SAEs and outcomes in ENOS and TARDIS. I was on the DMC for the MRC funded STEMS2 study and am on the DMC for the ongoing RfPB Neurovascular Imaging in Patients with Carotid Artery Disease study.
Past Research
I studied stroke recovery and the management of blood pressure in acute stroke as part of my Doctorate of Medicine, Clinical Studies of stroke recovery and potential enhancement with pharmacological intervention or stem cell mobilisation.
Future Research
My research interests include the natural history of recovery after stroke, potential enhancement of recovery with pharmacological agents or growth factors (G-CSF), and quality of life after stroke. I am also interested in depression after stroke.
I am going to be the National Co-ordinator for European multicentre, randomised, phase III clinical trial of hypothermia plus best medical treatment versus best medical treatment alone for acute ischaemic stroke EuroHYP-1
