Introduction

The Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies at Nottingham is one of the largest in the country and among the most wide-ranging in terms of teaching and research. We cover the languages, cultures and histories of two main geographical areas: Russia and South-Eastern Europe.

While studying at Nottingham you will not only develop proficiency in the language of your choice, but you will also gain a thorough knowledge of the histories, cultures and literatures of the region. Our intensive language courses in Russian follow two pathways for the first two years: one for beginners and one for post-A-level students. In addition you can choose non-language modules from Russian and East European history and culture. We ensure that all students at the Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies enjoy a first-class learning experience in a friendly and supportive environment.
