We encourage creative and innovative interaction with other disciplines and subject areas. We are actively involved in a number of scholarly centres and associations which advance interdisciplinary thinking and research.

The Department is a member of the Centre for Russian, Central and East European Studies (CRCEES), a partnership of eight universities set up under the Higher Education Funding Council’s initiative for Language-based Area Studies. CRCEES provides a range of activities including funding opportunities, an annual research forum, summer schools, and research training.

Members of the Department are also associated with the following centres:
