Research
Postgraduate research forms a key element of the Department's research culture
The Department is one of the principal centres of research in Russian and Slavonic Studies in the UK. In past research assessment exercises (RAE) we have scored consistently highly, a position which we consolidated in the 2008 RAE, where 60% of the department's research was rated 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent'. In regard to ‘Research Power’ the Department was rated fourth in the country.
Individual research is grouped and coordinated by research clusters which reflect particular strengths in the department, including:
-
Translation and performance in Russian and East European cultures
-
War and cultural memory
-
Imperial/Postimperial cultures and the challenges of ideology
An integral part of our research strategy is the development of the next generation of experts in our field. We have recently been awarded several postdoctoral fellowships (externally funded by the Leverhulme Trust as well as by The Centre for Russian, Central and East European Studies (CRCEES)). Postdoctoral as well as postgraduate researchers are part of our lively research environment.
