Current Research

My PhD is a multimethod ethnographic study of Shirebrook in Derbyshire; a deindustrialised colliery village which has subsequently become the home for the headquarters and warehouse of Sports Direct. The study broadly focuses on migrant and non-migrant experiences of work and community life with the aim of providing an account of social change there. This is done with a class analysis that incorporates both economic and cultural aspects, and analyses both historical (archival and biographical) and contemporary (observational, biographical and visual) data.
