Current Research

My current PhD research is based on a secondary analysis of data from the Understanding Society longitudinal survey. It aims to establish how leaving education during an economic recession affects the early employment trajectories of education-leavers. It will do so by analyzing the prevalence and patterns of full-time employment, non-standard employment, unemployment and inactivity, as well as assessing the occupational status levels achieved by education-leavers over a five year period. It will seek to establish how the value of educational attainment may change during periods of economic instability as well as exploring the gender, class and ethnicity inequalities which may be apparent in who 'succeeds' and who 'fails' during their early careers.
