Lecturer and Convenor of Undergraduate Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences
Before taking up my current position I worked for many years as a researcher in the School of Sociology and Social Policy. I specialised in the interviewing of women and worked on a wide range of projects. These included the experience of mature women returning to higher education; women's careers in banking; food choices made by mothers on behalf of their babies and young children; the impact of changing housing policy on women's vulnerability to domestic violence.
My MPhil thesis explored the mutual impact of women's careers in high street banking and motherhood. I continue to draw on my social policy interests and research experience in my teaching activities.
In my current position as Convenor of Undergraduate Studies I am responsible for supporting many elements of the School's undergraduate teaching infrastructure. My duties are wide ranging and diverse. In my role as Senior Tutor I oversee the operation of student support and development and the personal tutoring system within the School. I am also the School's Undergraduate Students' Examinations and Assessment Officer and Disability Liaison Officer.
I co-ordinate the recruitment, training and activities of part-time teachers who are involved in the undergraduate teaching programmes, and I organise the School's Week One schedule for incoming First Year students.
