Information for Prospective Students

Undergraduate degrees

We are committed to providing teaching and supervision of the highest quality. We currently teach 450 undergraduate students on single honours undergraduate programmes in:

• Sociology
• Cultural Sociology
• Social Policy

and joint honours programmes in:

• Sociology and Social Policy
• Social Work and Social Policy (leading to qualified status as a social worker)

With the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies will also offer a programme in:

• Film and Television Studies and Cultural Sociology

Postgraduate degrees

Approximately 190 students are registered for postgraduate taught (masters degree) programmes in:

• Research Methods (ESRC Recognised)
• Global Citizenship, Identities and Human Rights
• Public Administration
• International Social Policy

• Social Work (leading to qualified status as a social worker)
• Public Policy
• Trauma Studies  (Programme offered by the School of Education)
• Health Communication (programme offered by the School of English)

Of these, 127 students are registered on programmes delivered by the Centre for Social Work. 

Research degrees

The School’s 44 postgraduate research students make a very significant contribution to the School’s research culture. 

We have attracted studentships from a range of funders including:

• Centre for Integrated Healthcare Research (CIHR)
