Postgraduate admissions and fees

Entrance requirements

Please see the relevant entry in the Postgraduate Prospectus for information on the entry requirements for specific programmes.

In general, students should normally have, or expect to obtain before entry, a good honours degree in a social science discipline. However, applications from students with alternative qualifications are very welcome, and those who have studied outside the UK, provided that the qualifications are equivalent. Such applications are considered on a case-by-case basis. Students applying for the MA Social Work must also provide evidence of at least 2,500 hours of social work related experience and have Maths and English grade C at GCSE or equivalent.

All students are expected to be fluent in written and spoken English. Candidates whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate that their English meets the minimum level of proficiency required by the University. Please see the Postgraduate Prospectus for details of the qualifcations that are accetped and the standards that are required. Students who do not meet the required level of proficiency in English may be required to undertake further study at Centre for English Language Education before they start their programme. Students may also be required to take a pre-sessional Study Preparation Course offered by the University, covering language, study skills, social English and orientation to living in Britain. >

Applications

For all of our taught postgraduate programmes, except the MA Social Work, applications should be through the online application form A fee of £25 is payable to apply for all taught postgraduate programmes, does not apply to PhD or MPHil applications. Applications for the MA Social Work must be made through UCAS (no fee applies). 

Applications for all taught postgraduate programmes (except the MA Social Work) are handled by the University's Postgraduate Admissions Office. Offers are made on the basis of the information provided in the application form. Applicants for the MA Social Work will be invited for interview prior to an offer being made.  

Fees

The Postgraduate Prospectus has a range of helpful information about fees and funding.  In addition to funding available at University level, the School also offers a range of scholarships for taught programmes and studentships for PhD programmes.
