These bursaries are guaranteed, which means if you meet the eligibility criteria you will definitely get the award.
These awards are payable in your first year and in subsequent years of undergraduate study.
They include funds such as the Core Bursary and the National Scholarship Programme (NSP) awards.

Pre-Entry Awards - Ongoing
Application to these awards must be made in the academic year prior to the start of your course at Nottingham. If successful these awards are payable in your first year and in subsequent years of undergraduate study. These awards are competitive. This means there are a limited number of awards which will go to the students who most closely meet the relevant criteria.

John Lane Scholarships
Award Value: £5000 made payable over the four years of study (£2,000 in the first year followed by £1,000 in each subsequent year).
To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:
• Be hoping to enroll on the first year of a first full time undergraduate Pharmacy degree at The University of Nottingham in September 2012.
• Meet the residency requirements for a ‘home'* student (see application form).
• Have a residual household income of below £36,100 as assessed by Student Finance England. (Candidates and their sponsor/s, usually parent/s, must have consented to share your financial information with the University). As the deadline to this award is prior to the start of your course at Nottingham you will need to provide other evidence of your household income for example receipt of EMA or benefits that your household receive.
Successful candidates will receive a provisional notice of award on the condition they achieve the necessary grades to register on the Pharmacy course in September 2012 and that their household income is confirmed as below £36,100 by their student support assessment.

Graduate Entry Medicine Scholarships
There are three entry scholarships on offer to first year GEM students in 2012

These awards are intended to assist students facing financial difficulties; however the eligibility criteria for each award varies.

Healthcare Science Foundation Scholarship
Award value: £1,000
Conditions of the award are as follows:
• Candidates will be registered on Year 0 of the full time BSc Healthcare Science with a foundation year course at The University of Nottingham.
• Candidates must meet the residency requirements for a UK ‘home'* student.
• Candidates must be in receipt of all or part of the means-tested element of the student loan for living costs, and have applied for their maximum entitlement.
• Candidates must be prepared to submit a personal statement to show your interest in Science.
• Any candidates that are in receipt of any other external scholarships would not be eligible.
• As Foundation Year students, candidates will normally be expected to attend at least 80% of all scheduled taught classes. Failure to do so may affect eligibility for this award, or result in a successful candidate's award being withdrawn.

Award value: £1,000
Conditions of the award are as follows:
• Candidates will be registered on Year 1 of the full time BSc Healthcare Science course at The University of Nottingham.
• Candidates must meet the residency requirements for a UK ‘home' student.

Entrant Awards - Ongoing
To be eligible for these awards you must be in your year of entry to the University, and on the first year of your course (or year 0 if doing a foundation year, with the exception of the TH Barton Scholarship). If successful these awards are payable in your first year and in subsequent years of undergraduate study. Most of these awards are competitive. This means there are a limited number of awards which will go to the students who most closely meet the relevant criteria.

Ethel and Kevin B Malone Scholarship
Award value: £1,000 per academic year (maximum three years)
To be eligible for an Ethel & Kevin B. Malone Scholarship, you must:
• Have undertaken all your secondary education in a state or maintained school or college in the local region*
• Have registered for a full-time undergraduate degree course at The University of Nottingham
• Have a residual household income of no more than £25,000
• Not receive another bursary, scholarship or sponsorship from another source (Access to Learning Funds and University Core Bursaries do not affect your eligibility)
• Not have previously studied at university
*For the purposes of this award the local region consists of all NG postcodes plus DE1, DE3, DE5, DE7, DE21, DE22, DE23, DE24, DE55, DE72, DE73, DE74, DE75, LE11, LE12, LE13, LE14, PE21
Experian St Ann's Academy Scholarship
The University of Nottingham is keen to encourage students who have been educated at this new Nottingham Academy. There will be 8 recipients in 2012/13, being awarded £1,000** in the first year of undergraduate study and £500** in the second and third years of study.
• Meet the residency requirements for a ‘home/UK'* student.
• Be enrolled in the first year of a full time undergraduate course at the University of Nottingham.
• Have received your secondary level education at the Nottingham Academy or your home address has a St Ann’s postcode (as defined by Nottingham City Council – if you are unsure please contact us)
• Have a residual household income below £42,600.
Additional factors considered:
Consideration will also be given to additional responsibilities and achievements outside school and to other factors affecting achievement. You should ensure that you include in the supporting statement any personal circumstances not covered which you feel have impacted your education to date.

Anamax Charitable Foundation Scholarship
A Chemistry graduate has generously established a scholarship to assist one UK undergraduate Law student and one undergraduate Chemistry student. The criteria are laid out below. There will be two recipients for the 2012/13 academic year being awarded £6000** per year for three years of their course only (four years of study for MSci students).
To be eligible for the Anamax Charitable Foundation Scholarship you must:
• Have received your secondary level (11-18 years) education in a state or maintained school/college or have received funding to study at private school, in the United Kingdom.
• Be registered in the first year of a full time undergraduate course in Law or BSc/MSci in Chemistry at the University of Nottingham in September 2012.
• Meet the residency requirements for a ‘Home'* student
• Have a residual household income of no more than £25,000.

T H Barton Scholarship
Award value: £1,000
To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:
• Be registered on the first year of a first full time undergraduate course in the Faculty of Engineering at The University of Nottingham in September 2012 except for the following courses:
Architecture BArch Hons (K100)
Architecture and Environmental Design MEng Hons/Dip Arch (K230)
Architecture DipArch (K10E)
Unlike the other Entrant Awards, students are not eligible to apply during their foundation year (year 0) but must apply during year one of the course.
• Meet the residency requirements for a ‘home/UK' student.
• Have a residual household income of below £35,000 as assessed in your application for government student funding. (Candidates and their sponsor/s, usually parent/s, must have consented to share their financial information with the University.)
• Have received a secondary level (11-18 years) education in a state or maintained school or college in the East Midlands (see application form for more details)
Chaplin Law Scholarship
Nottingham alumnus Clive Chaplin (Law 1974) has generously established these UK undergraduate scholarships in Law and Modern Languages. his gift provides for five scholarships of £10,000 made payable over the four years of study. There will be one new award each year from 2012 until 2016.
To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:
• Meet the residency requirements for a ‘home/UK'* student and be studying your first undergraduate degree.
• Have a residual household income of below £35,000, as assessed in your application for government student funding. (Candidates and their sponsor/s, usually parent/s, must have consented to share their financial information with the University).
• Be registered on one of the following 4 year courses: BA Law with French and French Law, BA Law with German and German Law, or BA Law with Spanish and Spanish Law.
The successful candidate will receive £2,500 per annum in each year of study (including their year abroad). They will be required to produce a short annual report to inform the donor of their progress.
Entrant Awards - Year One Only
To be eligible for these awards you must be in your year of entry to the University, and on the first year of your course (or year 0 if doing a foundation year, with the exception of the Engineering Futures Scholarship ). These awards are payable in your first year of study only. Most of these awards are competitive.

MJG Scholarship
One award will be available in 2012/13
To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:
• Be registered on the first year of a first full time undergraduate course in Mathematics or Mathematics joint honours at The University of Nottingham in September 2012.
• Meet the residency requirements for a ‘home’* student (see application form).
• Have a residual household income of below £42,600 as assessed by Student Finance England (SFE). (Candidates and their sponsor/s, usually parent/s, must have consented to share their financial information with the University).
Bartle Simpkins Scholarship
Award Value: Four awards of £2,500* will be available in 2012/13
To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:
• Be registered on the first year of a first full time undergraduate course in Industrial Economics or Geography (or joint honours courses in these subjects) at The University of Nottingham in September 2012.
• Meet the residency requirements for a ‘home'* student (see application form).
• Have a residual household income of below £42,600 as assessed by Student Finance England. (Candidates and their sponsor/s, usually parent/s, must have consented to share your financial information with the University).

Sports Participation Scholarship
To be eligible candidates must:
• be registered on the first year of a first full-time undergraduate course at The University of Nottingham.
• have 'home' status for UK student funding purposes.
• have completed their secondary education in a state funded school or college.
• have had their household income assessed by Student Finance (Candidates and their sponsor/s, usually parent/s, must have consented to share their financial information with the University).
• be an active playing member (at any level of ability) of a University club dedicated to team sports (with preference given to hockey and cricket) OR have been a playing member of a recognised club whilst studying for A levels (or equivalent).
AND/OR
• should demonstrate an interest in and contribution to the non-playing aspects of the sport, through umpiring/refereeing, coaching or administration.
AND/OR
• should either have contributed to or have plans to extend their contribution to sport in the Community.
Eliahou Dangoor Scholarship
Award value: £1,000
To be eligible for a scholarship you must meet the following criteria:
• Be enrolled for one of the full time Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics undergraduate courses at the University of Nottingham.
• Meet the residency requirements for a ‘Home’* student
• Have a residual household income below £25,000.
• Not be in receipt of a bursary, scholarship or sponsorship for your course from source outside the University (Access to Learning Funds, Government Maintenance grants or University Core bursaries do not affect your eligibility).
• Not have studied at University before starting the current course at Nottingham.
• Be the first in your family to attend university.
GHP Economics Scholarship
Two awards valued at £2,500** each.
To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:
• Be registered on the first year of a first full time undergraduate course in Economics or Economics joint honours at The University of Nottingham in September 2012.
• Have undertaken all your secondary education in a state or maintained school or college in the Yorkshire region(see application form for definition of the region) • Meet the residency requirements for a ‘home’* student (see below).
• Have a residual household income of below £42,600 as assessed by Student Finance (Candidates and their sponsor/s, usually parent/s, must have consented to share your financial information with the University).

The Engineering Futures Scholarship
The Engineering Futures Scholarship was established with the support of alumnus
Steve Holliday (Mining Engineering 1978).
There will be four recipients in the launch year
(2012 entry) and two recipients a year until 2015 (10 scholarships in total). Each recipient will be awarded £1,500*
Unlike the other Entrant Awards, students are not eligible to apply during their foundation year (year 0) but must apply during year one of the course.
Additional eligibility criteria:
• Be registered on year one of a first full time undergraduate course in the Faculty of Engineering
at The University of Nottingham in September 2012**.
• Have a residual household income less than £42,600.
• Have been in employment of more than 15 hours a week for 12 months prior to entry
or having been made redundant 3 months prior to entry. Preference will be given to
employment in the engineering industry.
OR
• Be aged 21 or over when you enter university as a mature undergraduate student.
Additional factors considered:
• Demonstrable interest in Engineering.

Ede and Ravenscroft
The Ede & Ravenscroft Travelling Scholarship which was founded in 1991 by Ede & Ravenscroft Limited, Robemakers to the University, in celebration of the company's tercentenary.
This scholarship is for students who are ordinarily resident in the UK and classed as 'home' for funding purposes:
• The Scholarship shall be awarded annually subject to availability of the necessary funds.
• The Scholarship shall be open to students in their first or second year of a first undergraduate degree course, who will be studying abroad in the subsequent academic year.
• Applicants shall be facing financial difficulties due to the compulsory travel element of their course (term/semester/year abroad).
• Applicants must be in receipt of full UK government student financial support (i.e.income below £25,000).
• Applicants must submit a completed application form to Student Services
Other circumstances that will be taken into consideration:
Applicant having been unable to work in the previous six months due to illness.
If a student has a disability which will impact on their finances.
N Horton Smith
The N Horton Smith Travelling Scholarship was established in 1987 in memory of N Horton Smith, who joined the University in 1946 as assistant Lecturer in German and retired in 1979 as Professor of German.
The conditions of the award are as follows:
• The Scholarship shall be open to all undergraduates of the University to assist with travel abroad related to their studies .
• Interest and ability in languages, music or fine art will be taken into account.
• The Scholarship shall be awarded annually, but no more than once to the same person.
• No award will be made unless applications of sufficient merit are received.
• Candidates must submit a completed application form.
Catherine Williamson Travel Scholarship
Established in 1968, the aim of the travelling scholarship is to provide funding for current and former residents of Willoughby Hall to assist with compulsory travel abroad as part of their university course.
Eligibility criteria:
• Be registered on a first full time undergraduate course at The University of Nottingham.
• Meet the residency requirements as a ‘Home’ student.
• Be a current or former resident of Willoughby Hall, University Park.
• Be required to travel abroad as a compulsory part of your course in the following academic year.
