Kick Start
What is KickStart?
KickStart is a free programme which aims to support students’ transition to the university. It is offered to students who are care experienced or estranged as well as all new undergraduate students who are mature students (aged over 21). It is primarily a ‘settling in’ opportunity before term starts.
The event will be a wonderful opportunity for you to meet people, develop skills and address any concerns that you might have about the prospect of starting university. KickStart is free to attend.
When and where is KickStart?

Day 1: Study skills support; Resilience and confidence in your approach to university; marketplace of support services; support and wellbeing talk

Day 2: Academic taster session; financial support and budgeting; campus tour.

Day 3: 5-session programme led by the School of Education to enhance your academic study approach to starting university. These sessions link the underlying concepts of academic study with the practical management of student work.
Overnight accommodation
If you live over an hour’s commute from the university and are concerned about the cost of accommodation, we have several bed, breakfast and evening meal rooms available in our halls of residence. These are free of charge. The rooms are a single study bedroom with private shared bathroom facilities (shared between 2 people). These rooms are available for both the Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Please let us know on the booking form if you would like to book overnight accommodation.
Care experienced and estranged students only
We may also be able to provide overnight accommodation for care experienced and estranged students only on Monday 11th September if your commuting distance and public transport times mean that you would not be able to arrive for 9am on the Tuesday. Please email the KickStart team for details. We can also reimburse travel costs up to a maximum of £150.
