If you like sport – as a supporter or a participant - Nottinghamshire is a major sporting location with a number of sporting heroes we're proud to call our own, including: 

  • Brian Clough, Nottingham Forest Manager
  • Torvill and Dean, World-champion ice skaters
  • Rebecca Adlington, Olympic gold medallist, swimming
  • Carl Froch, WBC Super-Middleweight boxing champion 
  • Stuart Broad, Nottinghamshire County and England cricketer
  • Becky Downie, British Olympic squad gymnast

Sports teams and facilities

The county is also home to an impressive range of major sports teams and first-class facilities. 

Sport at the University

The University of Nottingham itself has excellent sport facilities and actively encourages and supports student participation in physical activity.

The Athletic Union at the University offer over 76 sports clubs for students to participate in, ranging from archery, Ultimate Frisbee, water polo and diving, to mountaineering, motorsport, kung fu and korfball.
