Societies

The University of Nottingham currently has over 200 societies for students to get involved in covering a broad range of subjects and interests, ranging from:

  • associations
  • course and career
  • current and world affairs
  • hobbies and interests
  • religious and cultural

Sports clubs 

The Sports Department currently runs over 70 sports clubs for students to participate in, whatever their interest or ability. These include sports as diverse as badminton, dodge ball, cheerleading, caving, snow sports, Ultimate Frisbee, martial arts, water sports, men and women's football, rugby and hockey, croquet, cycling and much more.

They also hold a number of events throughout the year.

Media and other student-run groups

There are many student-run groups to get involved with at the University:

  • Karnival ─ the biggest student fundraising group in Europe raised £1.7m for good causes in 2013
  • Nightline ─ a confidential listening and information service
  • TEC PA and Lighting ─ the Student Union’s very own lighting and sound company
  • Impact ─ the official University of Nottingham Students' Union magazine.
  • NUTS ─ the award-winning student TV station
  • CD and Record Library - a service with over 75,000 CDs and 7,000 vinyl LPs to borrow
  • URN ─ the award-winning student radio station, voted 'Best Student Station' four years running.
  • Welcome Committee ─ the committee who coordinate Welcome week.
  • The Nottingham New Theatre ─ the first fully student-run theatre in England produces up to 15 shows every semester
