Ucycle
Ucycle Nottingham is a Sustrans project working to increase levels of cycling amongst staff and students at The University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University, local further education colleges and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
In addition to running the bike hire scheme and organising events that raise awareness of the benefits of cycling, the project also works with partners to facilitate infrastructure improvements on and between campuses.
Find cycle maps for your journey to the University or read more about the cycle facilities available at The University of Nottingham.
New to cycling?
Potential cyclists can request a ‘Start Cycling’ pack which includes loads of great information about why to cycle, how to get started, keeping your bike secure
, what routes to take and what events are going on. Email Ucycle to request your pack.
If you would like to cycle but don’t think you are competent or confident enough, take advantage of RideWise. Based in Nottingham, they provide free cycling instruction and training to national standards for adults, teenagers and children - whether you’re a complete beginner, haven’t cycled for a while or are just looking to brush up your skills.
If you don’t feel that you need training, but would like to start cycling to work and feel that you need some support, then the Ucycle Nottingham Bike Buddy scheme may be for you! A Bike Buddy will help you find the safest, most direct route to campus and ride it with you.
Get involved
There are lots of ways to get involved in Ucycle Nottingham and in cycling at The University of Nottingham. From following Ucycle on twitter to being a bike buddy, there’s something for everyone! Email Ucycle to register your interest for any of the activities.
Dr Bike
Dr Bike is an on-site bike maintenance service. The Dr Bike mechanic will give cycles a thorough check and make any minor repairs such as changing brake blocks and tightening brakes.
Sessions take place at each campus every month. Look out for dates on the Portal and the UoN Ucycle Facebook page.
The service is free, but you must book in advance.
Bike Buddy scheme
Our Bike Buddy scheme matches new and returning cyclists with experienced cyclist commuters.
As a buddy, you will help a less experienced cyclist to plan their route and ride with them on their journey to campus to build their confidence.
Cycling Champions
We are looking for some staff and students to become ‘Cycling Champions’.
When we have events or news we want to publicise, we email our cycling champions and simply ask them to spread the word! This might just be chatting to people as you pass them, or maybe putting up some posters in communal areas, e.g. kitchens.
We know that there are a lot of very enthusiastic cyclists at the University and this is a great opportunity to spread that enthusiasm!
Maintenance workshops
Ucycle Nottingham runs bike maintenance workshops for staff and students who want to learn a bit more about looking after their bike. Content covers basic bike checks, puncture repair, brakes and gears.
Ucycle Forum
The University of Nottingham Ucycle Forum is an online community that gives staff and student cyclists an opportunity to find out what is happening on campus and to share their views and ideas.
E-newsletter
Ucycle Nottingham produces an e-newsletter
each month, which includes dates of upcoming events. If you would like to subscribe email Ucycle.
