University Staff Oscars

Message from Elizabeth ‘egg’ Goddard, Students’ Union Education Officer 11/12

Last year the Students' Union held the hugely successful Personal Tutor Oscars, with almost 300 nominations from students. Following this success, the Students' Union has expanded this campaign and launched the University Staff Oscars this year. Positives we hope to achieve from this include:

• Allowing students to reward and celebrate personal tutors, support and teaching staff who really go the extra mile.
• Getting students to think about what they value in personal tutors, support and teaching staff.
• Identifying and sharing best practice
• Encouraging positivity within the extended learning community environment.

There are now 17 awards grouped into the 4 broader areas of Personal Tutors, Teaching, University Life and The Equality and Diversity Champion, allowing for the nomination of both individuals and Schools/non-academic Departments. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Teaching & Learning Board, this year we are able to hold an award ceremony at East Midlands Conference Centre in March.

There are two nomination periods, at the ends of each semester, so staff only working in the first semester will not be disadvantaged. The winners will be chosen by the Education Network Committee and a pool of Course Reps in mid March.
