Quality assurance

The University is accountable to HEFCE (the Higher Education Funding Coucil for England) through the Quality Assurance Agency. Individual students also demand a degree of accountability and the mechanisms created to listen to the student voice are designed to address this need.

Quality is, of course, difficult to measure and so various proxies are used, such as National Student Survey results, School Review reports, league tables, awards, degree results and employment rates, depending on the aspect of the University's provision being considered.

Quality Manual

The University's Quality Manual sets out the framework within which schools operate quality assurance procedures in the local environment. Schools have a degree of autonomy in determining how local and discipline-specific issues affect their implementation of the University's intentions.

Academic Services Division (ASD)

ASD is responsible for many of the student administrative functions of the University, including quality-related policy development and implementation. Advice and guidance is available on their website.

External Examiners

External examiners play a significant role in reviewing our provision and giving constructive criticism to inform ongiong development activity. Academic Services Division offer comprehensive information and advice for External Examiners for taught courses.

Teaching enhancement

Our staff, as academic leaders in their subject areas, take a reflective approach to their teaching and consider a range of sources, including the student voice when thinking how to enable students to gain the most from engagement with their courses, modules and learning activities.

Government naturally wants its money to be spent wisely and there are all sort of controls over how we spend money, but also I think it likes the idea that universities are delivering quality education to students and therefore providing for a well-educated work force for the future.
