Brewhouse Yard Caves
Situated at the base of Castle Rock
and housed in five 17th century
cottages the the Musuem of
Nottingham life at Brewhouse Yard
offers an insight into Nottingham’s
social history over the last 300 years.
Behind the museum is a system of
man made caves which were lived in
until the late 1970s. One of the
caves was used as an air raid shelter
during World War II and the museum
displays reflect the 1940s theme.
The Brewhouse Yard caves can be
accessed via the musuem. Details of
opening times and entrance fees can
be found by visiting their website
here
When standing outside the museum
looking up towards the castle a
number of rock cut dwellings can be
seen cut in to the sansdstone.
