Trent & Peak Archaeology / The University of Nottingham North-Western Passage, 2 Castle Grove   Beneath a flagstone and a small hatch outside the Victorian house at 2 Castle Grove is the entrance to a now-secret tunnel into the Castle grounds. This tunnel, of almost certain medieval date, was probably open into the hunting park to the west of the Castle, now the Park Estate.   Was this a secret tunnel in the medieval period? Was this in fact the real Mortimer’s Hole? You can read more about this on the History page. There is no public access to cave CD3 at the moment.
