17 Castle Gate
Situated on one of Nottingham’s most
refined streets, 17 Castle Gate is a well-
proportioned Georgian townhouse owned by
Weavers of Nottingham, the independent
wine merchants.
In the 20th century 17 Castle Gate was used
by Nottingham’s lace industry but following
the decline in textile manufacturing the
whole building was bought by Weavers in
1989.
A programme of careful restoration has
returned 17 Castle Gate to its former glory,
and even revealed 18th-century sketches
hidden beneath layers of wallpaper.
The caves beneath 17 Castle Gate are small
but elegant. Until recently Weavers actively
used the caves as wine cellars but they are
no longer used in this way.
