Session: 2007-08
Semester: Autumn
Module Convenor: Dr L D Bennett
10 credits
Level 1
3 hours per week for 10 weeks, comprising lectures and case studies.
This module considers a range of transport issues. Topics covered include:
Classes are varied in nature, with an emphasis on viewing relevant videos, guest talks, discussion and perhaps small group work, rather than 'lecturing'. Students should acquire appropriate knowledge by taking their own notes in classes and by using the module web-site and the library to search for information in addition to the introductory information provided on this web-site. Use is made of case studies, particularly in the lectures by external transport professionals, to illustrate the concept being introduced. Developments in Nottingham are referred to wherever possible. The subject matter of all the classes is examinable.
The module is presented on the assumption that every student will make every effort to attend all the classes on the module timetable and to interact with the speaker when invited.
In order to gain further knowledge specifically relevant to this module, and also to gain a wider appreciation of transport studies, students may find it helpful to consult texts such as:
Written Examination (100%). Duration 2 hours; format of paper is: choose 2 questions from 4. The questions are published in advance.
This will be via comment to the convenor or through the standard mechanisms available for the purpose – see School of Civil Engineering Undergraduate Handbook.
Classes are all on Thursdays, 9-11 and 12-1 in Pope C15
Note: the timetable is indicative, and is subject to change due to guests' other commitments.
