In order to get the most out of your course at Nottingham, you will need to have a good command of written and spoken English. If English is not your first language, you may need to demonstrate your language skills by taking a recognised English language test such as IELTS. For details of other acceptable English language tests and qualifications, please see our minimum English language entry requirements.
If you have not met the level of English language required, our Centre for English Language Education (CELE) offers presessional courses to help you prepare for academic study in English. Find out more on the CELE website.
We offer courses of up to 40 weeks, for those who might wish to defer their degree place for a year in order to improve their English skills, as well as courses specifically for students going on to do foundation courses.
If you have met the language criteria for your course, but would like to brush up on your English skills before beginning your studies, then one of our CELE qualifications could help. We have summer courses that run for four weeks, and longer courses for those who wish to gain further confidence and experience with using English.
