In 2004, Nottingham was the first Sino-foreign university to establish a campus in China. The University of Nottingham Ningbo, China (UNNC) offers the same high standard of teaching as the UK campuses and has internationalisation at its heart: of almost 5,000 students, there are around 250 international students from more than 30 countries. With the world’s fastest-growing economy, China has become one of the most important countries in the world. We have developed close links with China over the last 20 years and established relationships withmost of the country’s top universities.
A world-class campus in China
All study programmes taught at Ningbo are conducted in English and you will graduate with a University of Nottingham degree. As a student based in Ningbo, you will have opportunities to study in the UK and at other top universities; if you are based at Nottingham and your course is taught in Ningbo, you may be able to spend time studying at the Ningbo Campus as part of your degree (see page 27 for more information about opportunities to study abroad). Currently, UNNC employs around 400 teaching and administrative staff from countries across the world.
Student life
Modern and spacious, the campus has high-quality teaching facilities, including a library and IT facilities. There are also restaurants, shops, a Students’ Union, the Student Society Centre, the Art Troupe and other amenities. An oncampus sports complex includes basketball, badminton, tennis and volleyball courts, a football pitch and running track and much more.
City life
Sitting on the south shore of the Hangzhou Bay in the prosperous Zhejiang Province, Ningbo is a busy port with a modern airport and direct connections to Beijing, Shanghai (30 minutes by air and two-and-a-half hours by road), Hong Kong and Guangzhou. In Ningbo itself, an extensive bus service makes it easy to get around. One of the oldest cities in China, Ningbo is seeped in history and its numerous temples include Baoguo Temple, one of the oldest wooden structures in Southern China. However, it also offers plenty of modern entertainment in the form of shops, bars, a contemporary art gallery and the Ningbo Grand Theatre. Eating out is a truly international experience, with Chinese, Brazilian, French, Indian, Italian, Korean, Lebanese, Thai and other cuisine available. The street market across the road from UNNC sells food from around the globe and is extremely popular with Ningbo and exchange students.
