Course overview
The Foundation Programme is designed for both United Kingdom and international students whose school leaving qualifications do not immediately allow them admission to undergraduate engineering and computer science degree programmes.
Students who successfully complete the Foundation Programme will be guaranteed progression onto one of a number of BEng/MEng/BSc degrees in the following departments:
Built Environment
Chemical and Environmental Engineering
Civil Engineering
Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Mechanical, Materials, Manufacturing Engineering
Computer Science
The route you take depends on the modules you select during the Foundation Programme.
Please note: H102 does not offer the Chemical and Environmental Engineering pathway.
Progression is subject to you having taken the correct pre-requisite modules and passed to the appropriate level during the Foundation Programme.
Year one
You will study mathematics and engineering subjects, which are appropiate for your chosen undergraduate degree. Options in Computer Science may also be included. This will provide you with an appropiated background to enter the first year of a degree programme in engineering or computer science.
Students benefit from a wide range of teaching and learning styles - from traditional seminars, lectures and tutorials to state-of-the-art multimedia and World Wide Web systems. All teaching is carried out on the main University campus by the same academic staff who teach on the main degree programmes - this helps to ensure the high standards that you would expect from The University of Nottingham.
All students receive tutorial support and international students also have the opportunity to improve their written and spoken English skills at the University's Centre for English Language Education (CELE).
Entry requirements
A levels: BBB, GCSE maths and relevant science, grade B; GCSE English, Grade C; applicants must not have qualifications that would not normally permit entry to an Engineering degree
English language requirements
IELTS 5.5 (no less than 5.0 in any element)
TOEFL iBT 87 (no less than 21 in listening and writing, 22 in reading and 23 in speaking)
Notes for applicants
If you are an UK or EU applicant, you will need to apply via UCAS in accordance with deadlines set by UCAS. Please contact us for the deadlines if you are applying for the January start on the Engineering Pathway; for guidance, the deadline to start in January 2011 was 1 December 2010
