How to apply
Welcome to the University of Nottingham
We are pleased that you are considering applying to us. In this section we summarise what you need to do and when you need to do it. .You should also look at the other sections on entry requirements and criteria for assessing applicants before filling in your UCAS form.
Applying through UCAS
If you are applying for admission to a full-time first degree course (even if you already hold a first degree), you must apply through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). Information about applying is available on the UCAS website at http://www.ucas.com.
Your application should reach UCAS between 1 September and 15 January (see below for applications to Medicine) for entry in the following September. When writing to the University about your application always state your name and address, as given on your application form, your UCAS number and the code and name of the course for which you are applying.
The final deadline for Home/EU and international applications is 30th June 2007. However EU and international students need to be aware that the application deadline for UK students is 15th January, therefore due to the competitive nature of many courses, it is advisable for students to apply by 15th January 2007 for equal consideration.
For more details about the UCAS service visit their Web address at: www.ucas.com
Applications for Medicine and Veterinary Medicine and Science
Applications for Medicine and Veterinary Medicine and Science should reach UCAS by the earlier date of 15 October. Candidates are advised to enter four choices for Medicine or Veterinary Medicine and Science on the UCAS form. The final choice may be used for an application to another degree course or left blank. Candidates should be aware that if they make more than four choices for Medicine or Veterinary Medicine and Science they will be contacted by UCAS to withdraw a selection, thus delaying their application.
Local students
The University welcomes applications from students who live locally and actively fosters close links with nearby schools and colleges to encourage more candidates to apply.
While all first-year undergraduates are guaranteed a place in University-arranged accommodation, students who choose to live at home or in other off-campus accommodation are still part of the social life of the University. The Off-campus Students’ Association co-ordinates activities for all undergraduates resident in the surrounding area.
Deferred entry
The University is normally happy to accept applications more than 12 months before the date of admission if there are good reasons – for example, if you will be gaining relevant work experience, spending time abroad to improve your languages, or need to obtain a university place before being considered for industrial sponsorship.
Alternative entry pathways
The University of Nottingham and partner institutions run a number of foundation years giving entry to specified courses at the University. Please see the list of Foundation courses for details.
The University’s Centre for Continuing Education offers a range of subjects through flexible delivery. Mature learners are not required to have A-levels or equivalent for most courses; entry is through informal assessment at interview. School leavers require at least two Cs at A-level and are also interviewed. Some subjects offer progression opportunities to specified courses elsewhere in the University. More information, visit http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/includes/edu/education/combined-studies.php
What happens to your application?
Procedures for handling applications may vary from subject to subject. Most offers are based purely on the information provided on your UCAS form or at interview, and may be conditional on obtaining a certain standard in specified subjects in your examinations.
The Portal shows you what stage your application is at. It is a personalised website provided to applicants when they apply to the University of Nottingham. You can use the portal to get information about your course, the University and the city of Nottingham as well as about the status of your application. Information is updated over the application cycle to keep you informed of any developments.
Many schools invite students to visit the University after an offer has been made, and you can wait until after the visit before sending UCAS your reply to the offer. This gives you the opportunity to meet students and staff in the school and see the campus. Details of interviews and opportunities to visit are included in individual school entries.
Policy
Applicants are considered solely on the basis of their merits, abilities and potential, regardless of gender, ethnic or national origin, age (subject to the University regulations on minimum age), disability, religion, sexual orientation or any other irrelevant distinction.
