Student life
A life less ordinary
These days, employers are seeking graduates who have the social skills, personal accomplishments and confidence to support their academic achievements. Whether you’re into sports, the arts, or want to learn something completely new, we believe we have something for everyone at Nottingham.
Making the media
There’s a lot on offer for students looking to satisfy their
journalistic urge. NUTS is Nottingham’s new student-run
television station; University Radio Nottingham (URN) is an
award-winning student station where you can gain skills
including producing and presenting; and award-winning
magazine Impact is written by students, for students.
That’s entertainment
Students in Nottingham are never short of entertainment and the Students’ Union regularly runs club nights throughout the week at some of the biggest clubs in the city. If you love to laugh, you’ll enjoy Funny Farm, our monthly comedy night in the recently refurbished Students’ Union bar, which has played host to comedians like Ross Noble and Johnny Vegas. We have also hosted shows for BBC Radio’s One Live in Nottingham, and in recent years we have been visited by acts like Pendulum, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Judge Jules, Scratch Perverts and many more.
Making a difference
The Student Volunteer Centre is the Student Union’s volunteering department. It offers students the chance to gain experience and develop valuable skills while getting involved with and helping the local community. The Centre works with more than 100 organisations, so whether your passion is art or sport, conservation or education, there are all sorts of opportunities on offer. Last year, the Centre had more than 5,000 students signing up to work on a range of projects.

“For those looking to go on to careers in radio, there is no better place to start than University Radio Nottingham. Our graduates have gone on to BBC Radio One, BBC 6music, BBC local radio, commercial radio stations and many other media jobs.”Tom Whiter, Deputy Station Editor, University Radio Nottingham
