Biography

Graduated from the University of Padova (Italy) in 2004, Marco completed an internship at Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Centre in California (USA) in 2006, when he then moved to Scotland. In Glasgow, Marco obtained a Master's in Veterinary Medicine by Research working on the development of novel non-invasive tools to assess lower airway inflammation in horses. After a small spell in equine first opinion practice in Renfrewshire, Marco returned to the University of Glasgow in 2008 to complete a 4-year residency in Equine Internal Medicine and obtained the status of diplomat of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine in 2014. In Glasgow he also worked for 3 years towards his PhD on equine epidemiology describing the prevalence of NSAIDs usage and toxicity in horses through the analysis of large dataset (~half million horses) of electronic medical records. Marco has also been involved in several other studies on equine endocrinology and to describe the nature of first opinion practice in North America and the United Kingdom. Marco joined the team at The University of Nottingham in 2014 and is a Clinical Associate Professor in Equine Internal Medicine and is involved in teaching throughout the 5 years. In 2021 Marco obtained the Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, in recognition of his contribution to teaching at the school. Marco's week is divided between teaching on campus and working at the associate practice Pool House Equine Clinic.

When not at work Marco enjoys spending time with his family, walking the dog and playing golf (badly!).
