Biography:

I qualified as a vet from the University of Cambridge in 2009 and spent three years in a small animal practice in Lincolnshire. During this period I developed an interest in the health and welfare of shelter animals, both in the UK and abroad.

Degree registration:

DVM Canine Shelter Medicine, in association with Dogs Trust, due for completion in September 2016

Research topic:

‘Biosecurity and disease awareness in UK animal shelters: current practice and the role of staff training’

Summary of research:

The first stage of this DVM project will involve surveying a sample of shelters to gather information about their disease management strategies and training protocols. Following on from this we aim to spend more time in an interview or focus group setting with a subset of shelters. We would like to ascertain the information needs of shelter staff and volunteers with the long-term goal of creating targeted, affordable and user-friendly educational resources.
