Republican Presidential Candidate Jon Huntsman Speaks at College of Charleston
Republican presidential candidate Governor Jon Huntsman recently participated in College of Charleston's "The Bully Pulpit Series: Reflections on Presidential Communication" in Randolph Hall on November 2, 2011.
Huntsman was elected Governor of Utah in 2004 and won re-election in 2008. Prior to his election, Huntsman was appointed the U.S. Ambassador to Singapore by President George H.W. Bush. President Barack Obama appointed him U.S. Ambassador to China in 2009.

Howard F. Rudd, Jr. Business Person of the Year Award -- This year's recipient is Harry T. Harvin III or "Trey" as everyone knows him. Graduating with honors from the College with a degree in business administration in 1992, Trey not only excelled in the classroom, but also on the basketball court as captain of the men's basketball team under Coach John Kresse.

Alumna of the Year Award -- Following Kellie's graduation from the College as a Communication major, she embarked on a journey of community service with the HandsOn Network in Atlanta, GA. When Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, Kellie answered the call for help and became the founding executive director of HandsOn New Orleans. She worked around the clock to build facilities to house 100 volunteers per night and involved these volunteers in more than 400,000 hours of service. Within two y

Distinguished Alumnus Award -- Neil majored in biology at the College and then graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and completed his residency in pediatric optometry and vision therapy at State University of New York. Pre-Medical Society's Outstanding Service Award in Medicine Award -- This year's recipient is John F. Tisdale, Class of 1986 and the son of Belton and Sara-Gantt Tisdale, Class of 1956. After completing his degree in chemistry at the College, John received his medical degree from MUSC in 1990 and did his internship and residency at Vanderbilt in internal medicine. Young Alumnus of the Year Award -- Cyrus Buffum became Charleston's first Waterkeeper on September 16, 2008 after the organization was officially approved as a member program of the Waterkeeper Alliance.
Cyrus was born and raised on Cape Cod, MA and grew up sailing throughout New England; his time on the water gave him an incredible appreciation and passion for the ocean and its delicate ecosystems and eventually gave direction to the many decisions he's made in his life.

Alumni Award of Honor -- To receive this highest of honors, one must make a truly outstanding contribution to the College or to the Alumni Association. Billy Silcox has done just that for over 50 years -- since he set foot on this campus as a freshman and became one of our all-time great tennis players. However, those who know Billy well, know his love affair with the College began with his father and mother (Willard and Mary Silcox, both Class of 1933). The Silcox blood truly is maroon.
