4.2 Bounded rationality and the use of heuristics As decision makers, none of us has infinite resources or time to devote to gathering and analysing information. In addition, we all have significant limitations to the amount of complexity we can cope with. Thus, even where we make conscious efforts to make decisions according to a formally rational process, we often need to make simplifying assumptions and accept limits on the availability of information and the thoroughness of our analysis. As noted above, we constantly use heuristics
4.1 Introduction A psychological perspective does not start from the assumption that people are fundamentally irrational. Rather, it emphasises a different logic: a logic that meets the challenges we have evolved to face (Calne, 1999). For much of our evolution we have faced an environment with major differences from the modern business world. We have developed a range of cognitive mechanisms to cope with adverse environments in which resources are scarce. These include a range of simplifying and confidence-s

2.4.2 What are social work values? Traditionally, one of the things that distinguishes a profession is that it has a set of principles to which its members have to be committed and must put into practice. Sarah Banks defines social work values as: a set of fundamental moral/ethical principles to which social workers are/should be committed. This three minute video is about tools and machines that are used by a physical therapist. They include small machines, weights, measuring equipment and treadmills and elyptical machines. All of these tools of equipment help regain strength, make sure the joints are functioning correctly, and prevent the loss of mobility. This video could be used as part of a career day as well as to motivate students to think of machines that could help them improve their own conditioning.
Interpersonal communication in health and social care services is by its nature diverse. As a consequence, achieving good or effective communication – whether between service providers and service users, or among those working in a service – means taking account of diversity, rather than assuming that every interaction will be the same. This unit explores the ways in which difference and diversity impact on the nature of communication in health and social care services.

This read-aloud is Arthur's Halloween written and illustrated by Marc Brown. Arthur finds everything about Halloween scary: his little sister's costume, even his morning snack! But he's most afraid of the big spooky house on the corner where no one wants to go trick-or-treating. His fears are eventually soothed once Arthur realizes things don't always turn out the way you imagine. There is a play button to start the story and a pause button on each page. Students explore Mercury and Venus, the first and second planets nearest the Sun. They learn about the planets' characteristics, including their differences from Earth. Students also learn how engineers are involved in the study of planets by designing equipment and spacecraft to go where it is too dangerous for humans.
How do we become individuals? This unit looks at how genes and the environment interact making each of us unique. Looking at the period between conception and birth you will examine the issues of nature or nurture to see which has the greatest impact.
