Multiple Sclerosis - Cranial Nerves Exam - Hypoglossal (CN XII) Sub-exam - Patient 21
This is a 52-year-old white male with a history of bilateral optic neuritis presenting in his twenties who now reports polyextremity sensory motor disturbance. He also has diabetes. The patient reports bilateral upper and right lower extremity sensory and motor disturbance with a band-like sensation about his torso for the past 1-2 months.
Phylogenetic Systematics: Developing an Hypothesis of Amniote Relationships
Biodiversity studies begin with patterns of evolutionary diversification, made possible by phylogenetic systematics. Phylogenetics clusters species into groups depicting their common ancestry based on shared derived characters unique to that group. It is quantifiable, reproducible, and scientifically testable, and has three assumptions: evolution has occurred, there is a single phylogeny of life resulting from evolutionary diversification, and characteristics are passed from generation to genera
What is the Best Insulator: Air, Styrofoam, Foil, or Cotton?
That heat flows from hot to cold is an unfortunate truth of life. People have put a lot of effort into stopping this fact, however all they have been able to do is slow the process. Working in groups of three to four, students will investigate the properties of insulators in attempts to keep a cup of water from freezing, and once it is frozen, to keep it from melting.
Sound for Sight
Echolocation is the ability to orient by transmitting sound and receiving echoes from objects in the environment. As a result of a Marco-Polo type activity and subsequent lesson, students learn basic concepts of echolocation. They use these concepts to understand how dolphins use echolocation to locate prey, escape predators, navigate their environment, such as avoiding gillnets set by commercial fishing vessels. Students will also learn that dolphin sounds are vibrations created by vocal organs

7.2.4 Using questions Questions can be used as a means both of persuasion and of control. Repeatedly telling an individual something that they are unwilling to accept is unlikely to get them to change their mind. It is better instead to ask carefully constructed questions that will lead him or her to realise the strength of your case and the weakness of their own. Asking questions gives the questioner more control over the conversation, forcing the other side to respond. Writing down a list of appropriate question
Protein interaction networks - Prof. Yin Liu
Inference of gene modules and protein interaction networks using using synthetic lethality method (e.g., Pan X et al, Cell 124 1069-1081, 2006) the yeast-two-hybrid method and homology with model organisms. Part of the Computer-Aided Discovery Methods course taught at Baylor College of Medicine.
