Bacteria Sense Space and Time
Duke University researchers in the Department of Biomedical Engineering show that E. Coli bacteria can detect the amount of space available in their environment and determine when to start or stop growing. This phenomenon provides a possible explanation on how growing organs are able to sense the size of their environment and decide when it is time to stop growing.
