This unit explores conceptual tools for assisting our thinking and deliberation on what matters. The notion of ‘framing’ nature is introduced and three readings provide an understanding of systems thinking for explicitly framing issues of environmental responsibility.

This selection features a slide show which provides six writing tips for better business communications ( use resonant characters, choose strong action verbs, place no more than eight words between the noun and verb, link information with explicit connectors, lead from old information to new, and use problem/solution/action paradigm). Introduction to Human Nutrition - Fall 2006.This course provides an overview of digestion and metabolism of nutrients. Foods are discussed as a source of nutrients, and the evidence is reviewed as to the effects of nutrition on health. The emphasis of the course is on issues of current interest and on worldwide problems of food and nutrition. Students are required to record their own diet, calculate its composition, and evaluate its nutrient content in light of their particular needs.

Induced EMF in a coil of wire
Students use a simple set up consisting of a coil of wire and a magnet to visualize induced EMF. First, students move a coil of wire near a magnet and observe the voltage that results. They then experiment with moving the wire, magnet, and a second, current carrying coil. Students connect the coil to a circuit and the current from the induced EMF charges a conductor.
