Bruce Degen (Magic School Bus)
In elementary school he said he had a wonderful teacher, he was always doing art in the back of the room. His teachers would always hang up his art around the school. He reflects that his artwork was a huge part of his life. He says authors need to be clear, readers need to know what is going on, it needs to be truthful. Why Web 2.0 is Good for Learning and for Research: Principles and Prototypes
The term "Web 2.0" is used to describe applications that distinguish themselves from previous generations of software by a number of principles. Existing work shows that Web 2.0 applications can be successfully exploited for technology-enhance learning. However, in-depth analyses of the relationship between Web 2.0 technology on the one hand and teaching and learning on the other hand are still rare. In this article, we will analyze the technological principles of the Web 2.0 and describe thei

Plagiarism.org is an "online resource for educators concerned with the growing problem of Internet plagiarism." The organization provides information on online plagiarism and explains how Turnitin.com can be used by educators "to fight plagiarism and help bring academic integrity back into our schools." The technologies behind Turnitin.com, facts about Internet plagiarism, and the growth of "cheatsites" online are also explained. Members of Turnitin.com pay for access to "a proprietary system th
Essential Science for Teachers: Physical Science
In-depth interviews with children that uncover their ideas about the topic at hand.,In this segment the interviewer is trying to find out if the student understands that even though you may mix two things together, the individual components still retain their properties.

This remarkable Web site contains descriptions and animations of nineteen different kinds of engines. Engine types include internal combustion, steam, and sterling engines, and each page shows how the piston, crankshaft, and other components move together to generate power. The animations demonstrate the processes of intake, compression, and exhaust. Some of the featured engines have more detailed descriptions than others, and oftentimes, a brief account of the engine's history is included. One
Software Engineering for Web Applications
Teaches basics of designing a dynamic web site with a database back end, including scripting languages, cookies, SQL, and HTML with the goal of building such a site as the main (group) project Emphasizes computer-human interface and the graphical display of information. Crucial to the project is the identification of a client with whom the group must work with throughout the month, designing specifications, implementing them, reviewing and evaluating, and testing. This is a real-life client who

Formalisms for an Annotation-based Training Memory: Connecting Implicit and Explicit Semantics
This article aims at presenting the formalisms we defined for annotation-based training memories within the MICA project. It elaborates the objectives of the project and the requirements these objectives put on the tool to be implemented. A study of the literature is used to establish our formalism. Based on ontologies, they structure the annotation object and adapt the Alexander design pattern to annotation action.
Designer integration in training cycles : IEEE LTSA model adaptation
This paper describes an architecture centered on a component model for the course cycle. This
model guides a re-engineering process based on the observed use scenarii. It is applied in an
institutional framework and uses learning devices provided by the open source community. The
architecture integrates the latest works on learning technology standards.
Blow-and-Go Parachute
Students make a skydiver and parachute contraption to demonstrate how drag caused by air resistance slows the descent of skydivers as they travel back to Earth. Gravity pulls the skydiver toward the Earth, while the air trapped by the parachute provides an upward resisting force (drag) on the skydiver.
GPS Scavenger Hunt
Students go on a GPS scavenger hunt. They use GPS receivers to find designated waypoints and report back on what they found. They compute distances between waypoints based on the latitude and longitude, and compare with the distance the receiver finds.
Perching Parrot
Students explore the concepts of center of mass and static equilibrium by seeing how non-symmetrical objects balance. Using a paper cut-out shape of a parrot sitting on a wire coat hanger, they learn that their parrot exists in stable equilibrium — it returns to its balancing point after being disturbed. The weight of its tail makes the parrot balance upright. Give the parrot a push, and she knocks off balance, but swings back and forth until coming to rest in balance again.
