Veterans' Cooperative Grocery Store, April 1946. Photo no. 2.
World War II veterans attending Alabama Polytechnic Institute were often married and sometimes had children. To counter high post-WWII prices in Auburn, Ala., the veterans formed a food cooperative, which resembled a small country grocery store. Per the Alumnews, prices averaged 30% less than in local stores. [Individuals in this photograph are not identified. Anyone with information should contact the Auburn University Libraries Cataloging Dept. at caudlda@auburn.edu.]

Surface fibrils (fimbriae) have been observed on fungi from every major
group. Fimbriae are thought to be involved in the following cell to cell
interactions: conjugation, flocculation and adhesion. Several higher fungi
exibit two other types of interactions: hyphal fusion (anastomosis) and
clamp connection formation. As a prelude to examining the role of
fimbriae in these processes, the fimbriae of two fungi that undergo these
fusion events were examined.

Both El MS and FAB MS behavior of two groups of compounds, aryltin and
ferrocene compounds, have been studied.
For the aryltin compounds, the effect of substituent group position, substituent
group type and ligand type on the El spectra have been explored in the El MS studies.
The fragmentation mechanism has been investigated under El with linked scans, such as
fragment ion scans(BJE), parent ion scans(B2JE) and constant neutral radical loss
scans(B2(1-E)JE2). In the FAB MS studies, matrix optim
Factors affecting DNA uptake by mammalian cells
The ability to introduce DNA and express custom DNA sequences in bacteria
opened the door for improvements in a large number of fields including agriculture,
pharmacology, medicine, nutrition, etc. The ability to introduce foreign DNA sequences
into mammalian cells in an efficient manner would have a large impact on therapeutic
applications especially gene therapy. The methods in use today suffer from low
efficiencies and sometimes toxicity. In this work a number of factors were evaluated for

Environmental assessment and biomonitoring of the Twelve Mile Creek watershed, Niagara Peninsula, On
In light of the heavy reliance of the people of the Niagara Peninsula on the T\\'elve
Mile Creek (TMC) watershed for recreational activities and for municipal and industrial uses
( e.g., drinking water, shipping and discharge of effluents), it was deemed prudent to assess
the envirol1tnental health of the system by analysing the sediments total and exchangeable

management of aquatic sediments, and the sedimen
An educator's perspective of Dr. Feingold's K-P (Kaiser- Permanents) elimination diet for hyperkinet
Do evaluation of the literature and a regional
observational report support Dr. Feingold's claim that the
K-P (Kaiser-Permanente) elimination diet improves the
behaviours of hyperkinetic children, and others?
Dr. Feingold suggests that some hyperkinetic
children, and other children as well, are genetically
predisposed to intolerance of food additives, particularly
food colours and flavours. He claims that the K-P diet,
that eliminates salicylates and artificial food colours
and flavours, improve
Analytical modelling of bacterial migration and accumulation with rate-limited sorption in discrete
An analytical model for bacterial accumulation in a discrete fractllre has been developed.
The transport and accumlllation processes incorporate into the model include advection,
dispersion, rate-limited adsorption, rate-limited desorption, irreversible adsorption, attachment,
detachment, growth and first order decay botl1 in sorbed and aqueous phases. An analytical
solution in Laplace space is derived and nlln1erically inverted. The model is implemented in the
