ArchiDATA: A Hypermedia Tool for Architecture
Design is a cooperative activity at several levels. At one level, clients, architects, financiers, and construction engineers and contractors, all play important roles in creating the design for the building. At another level, the design team may contain architects, interior and landscape designers, lighting experts, heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning experts, etc. At a third level, individual architects cooperate with computer-based design tools in creating portions of a complex design.
Preserva??o e Gest?o de S?tios Hist?ricos: a contribui??o do Heritage Information System [Preservati
The present article aims to discuss the application of the digital technologies in the preservation and management of cultural heritage development. The GIS is used by the international agencies heritage like UNESCO. The GIS applications that are largely applied in built cultural heritage are internationally known as Heritage Information System ? HIS. In HIS, the space configuration of the historical sites is represented by a map or for a DTM, with the quantitative and qualitative attributes, 3D
Dise?o Digital. Estudio Exploratorio de caso (Digital Design. Exploratory study of a case)
After the passage of the mechanical era to the digital era, the design must respond with increasing complexity of the technique, together with the plurality of expectations. Design education is sustained in conceptual instrumentation; it implies to recognize problematics that surpass the possibilities of an isolated or self-sufficient discipline; transdiscipline becomes essential for the understanding of the subjects. The porpuse is to generate new instruments for perception of space, combined wi
Didactic Design: light and optics for preschool level
Since 2003, we have been developing a pedagogic proposal and didactic material for teaching Light and Optics to kindergarden children that enhances the construction of the first scientific thinking schemes. The design (industrial and graphic) applied to this project has generated an educational product composed of 44 objects. These materials allow teaching concepts such as: combination of colors, light indispensable to see, formation of shadows and images are not objects. These have been develop
Representation and Architecture
A collection of papers developed from the proceeding of the Northeastern Regional meeting of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA), held at the Department of Architecture, Carnegie Mellon University. The introduction includes articles about representation, representation and architecture. Part 1, Who/To Whom speaks about representation and participatory design process, and of a system for recording behavior and occupying of design. Part 2, How: includes Figure, System and
Cost Comparisons
Students learn about the many types of expenses associated with building a bridge. Working like engineers, they estimate the cost for materials for a bridge member of varying sizes. After making calculations, they graph their results to compare how costs change depending on the use of different materials (steel vs. concrete). They conclude by creating a proposal for a city bridge design based on their findings.
Developing a New Approach of Computer Use ?KISS Modeling? for Design-Ideas Alternatives of Form Mass
This research aims at developing a new approach called ?KISS Modeling?. KISS is generally a rule of ?Keep It Simple, Stupid? that will be applied in modeling process investigated and presented by the research. The new approach is implemented in a computer program ?KISS Modeling? that generates three dimensional forms based on simplifying the concept of shape recognition in design. The research, however, does not employ totally concepts of shape recognition or shape understanding in Artificial In
No More Fear or Doubt: Electronic Architecture in Architectural Education
Operating electronic and Internet worked tools for Architectural education is an important, and merely a prerequisite step toward creating powerful tele-collabortion and tele-research in our Architectural studios. The design studio, as physical place and pedagogical method, is the core of architectural education. The Carnegie Endowment report on architectural education, published in 1996, identified a comparably central role for studios in schools today. Advances in CAD and visualization, combin
Future Space Cities@Universe (Digi-City Vision)
A template for the future city has been carved into the heavens. Ever since the beginning of humankind, we have looked to the sky for the opportunity to make a new start in our imperfect world. Between the stars and the darkness we have imagined utopias beyond the reach of our travel technologies, colonizing space with our fantasies. Now we are in the first stages of an electronic revolution, but in the future 50 years later we will be in a mega-digital era which we have to predict, work and sea
