The good news is that all the "end--of-Mayan-calendar" doomsday talk is pretty much just hogwash. But the bad news, at least according to a professor at Washington State University, is that there are a genuinely disturbing number of scientifically valid scenarios in which our planet -- and in some cases, even the entire universe -- could be slammed suddenly into catastrophic oblivion.
