Writing and Experience: Crossing Borders, Fall 2010
In this era of globalization, many of us have multi- or bi-cultural, multilingual or bilingual backgrounds, and even if we don't have such a background, we need urgently to understand the experiences of people who do. You will very likely work outside the United States at some point in your future; you will almost certainly work with people who speak more than one language, whose ancestry or origins are in a country other than the U.S., who have crossed borders of nation, language, culture, clas
Hazel Pot Beetle--An Overview
This short video gives excellent real life, close up footage of a Hazel Pot Beetle. An orange and black insect that has the typical - if slightly squarish - 'beetle' shape. The thorax is black in males and red in females, and the wing covers are reddish-orange fringed with black. The whole beetle is very glossy. This is a great resource to help build background knowledge and to help make real world connections between nature and the classroom. (Less Than 2 Minutes)

Drip, Drop, Drip, Drop
In this activity, Students design an experiment to model a leaky faucet and determine the amount of water wasted due to the leak. Using the data they gather in a table, students graph and write an equation for a line of best fit. They express their results with multiple representations and use the results to make predictions. This activity will build an understanding of variable, the relationship between variables, and generalizing these relationships.

The Limits of Science
Lord Rees of Ludlow delivers the 2011 Romanes Lecture. Telescopes reveal the remote universe; accelerators probe the subatomic world. Thanks to such instruments, astronomers have established, in outline, how our cosmos has evolved from a still-mysterious beginning more than 13 billion years. Billions more years - and perhaps even an infinite time - lie ahead of it. But 99 percent of scientists focus neither on the very small nor the very large, but on the even greater complexities of our everyda
