Research methods: Semiotics and signification
This resource is part of "Research methods" module. This module is designed primarily for students taking sport-related courses, but knowledge and use of research methods is widely shared across a range of social science disciplines, so students from any other such discipline should find this useful too. It is important to focus on methods, almost to the exclusion of any actual content, at least until you find your bearings. Thus although there are important differences between them students of
4.4 Structural explanations II: families Our second example of structural explanations of criminal behaviour takes a different starting point. It looks at pathological or problem families and the transmission of criminal careers within them. This work is most closely associated with the social-psychological research of David Farrington (1994). Farrington's argument has two core components. First, he argues that criminal offending is part of a larger syndrome of anti-social behaviour. A syndrome is a medica

Data Mining Application in Higher Learning Institutions
One of the biggest challenges that higher learning institutions face today is to improve the quality of managerial decisions. The managerial decision making process becomes more complex as the complexity of educational entities increase. Educational institute seeks more efficient technology to better manage and support decision making procedures or assist them to set new strategies and plan for a better management of the current processes. One way to effectively address the challenges for improv
Virtual plants in high school informatics – L-systems
A creation of models is becoming an important part of informatics education besides algorithmization and programming. An appropriate example concerning use of computer science while modelling real world are the L-systems. In the paper we describe a proposal of teaching of plantÂ’s growth modelling by the L-systems at a high school. Our goal is to help students to understand and try creation of plantÂ’s model on the computer.
ICT use in school: vision and performance measures
The implementation of ICT in schools requires a vision on ICT use in school, the formulation of clear strategic goals, and the planning and organisation of the use of ICT in school.
The pursued goals are those points we want to reach for the learner by setting up ICT use in school. At the same time the pursued goals are the results of using ICT as expected by the stakeholders, being the learner, the teacher, the ICT coordinator, and on an indirect way the parents, the environment and the funding
Le TALN au service de la didactique du français langue étrangère écrit
New text analysis softwares issued from fields of research such as Machine Learning and Natural Languages Processing prove to be relevant tools for the language sciences. Littératron is a new data-processing tool for the automatic extraction of syntactic patterns, designed at LIP6 by Jean-Gabriel Ganascia. Associated with a linear text analyser, it reveals the stylistic peculiarities of a text. We will see that Littératron carries out a linguistic diagnosis of learners if used in language scie
Cowos: A Model of Collective Work Situations to Support Modelling and Simulation Based Approaches of
This paper describes an operational model of collective work situations. This model is rooted in the CHAT theory. It allows creating multi-agent simulations where the agentsÂ’ behaviour is defined in terms that make salient organization issues, and allows building learning situations that focus on making students consider explicitly these issues.

Meanings for Fraction as Number - Measure by Exploring the Number Line
Construction of meanings for fraction as number-measure is studied during the implementation of exploratory tasks concerning comparison and ordering of fractions as well as operations with fractions. 12-year-old students were working collaboratively in groups of two with software that combines graphical and symbolic notation of fractions represented as points on the number line. Fractions as points and segments, ordering fractions as part of kinesthetic activities and abstracting the scaling of
