3.1 Clubs and societies The milieu was urban. It was not a business of isolated individuals working in country estates, or of secluded academics, cloistered within unworldly universities. The scene was convivial, social. The focus was Edinburgh, although Glasgow and Aberdeen were active too. Cities were small. Even the capital was intimate enough for its intelligentsia to be able to meet regularly and casually. ‘Here I stand, at what is called the Cross of Edinburgh’, wrote an excited visitor, ‘and within a fe

It does so by examining the transformation of the UK from a centralised unitary state into a decentralised unitary state. You will see how the data from a simple experiment can be described in a 3 Direction – find your inspiration Bringing history to life, filming field trips, creating a video montage of class – the ways in which you can incorporate DV into your lessons are endless and limited only by your imagination. Your project must have clear objectives and outcomes. Start by asking yourself: ‘Is the use of video going to enhance the lesson or is it just going to transform what could be a good lesson into a technical disaster?’ This question will be driven by the learning outcomes and objectives of the 4 Effective governance Effective teams have clear, agreed and common goals – their members must all be pulling in the same direction. (Creese and Earley (1999)) The DfES, LAs and a number of authors have set out their own definitions of the elements that make a governing body effective. They have generally included the following: having a sound knowledge of the school; 1.2.1 Stating essential conditions These structures are used to show conditions that are essential.

This paper reports on an empirical study of the interactive means by which a human teacher supported higher-order, musical thinking in learners. The aim of the work presented here was to create guidelines on how to make practical use of empirical research in teaching agent development. The research overview given in the introduction is followed by an illustrative example of mentoring interactions in musical learning. An elaboration of a musical education problem is then given and a description o
Course 8.022 is one of several second-term freshman physics courses offered at MIT. It is geared towards students who are looking for a thorough and challenging introduction to electricity and magnetism. Topics covered include: Electric and magnetic field and potential; introduction to special relativity; Maxwell's equations, in both differential and integral form; and properties of dielectrics and magnetic materials. In addition to the theoretical subject matter, several experiments in electric
A prominent figure in the wide-open poetry movement of the 50s, Ferlinghetti gave voice to a generation that changed the face of poetry forever. Challenging the elite's definition of art and the artist's role, Ferlinghetti founded City Lights Bookstore, providing a meeting place for writers, artists, and intellectuals for over a half century. For too many Americans, the history class in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (remember the teacher’s plaintive question, “anyone, anyone?”) is all too familiar. Our approach is meant to challenge this false and familiar image of history: understanding and reconstructing the past requires ways of thinking, reading, and questioning much more engaging and challenging than mere memorization.
Teaching in a way that differs from your own schooling experience is not necessarily easy to imagine, let a

The purpose of this lesson is to use 'Ladies First' to show not only that women working together can and did create a dialogue and a basis for trust among ethnic groups, but
