Auditory demonstrations in Acoustics & Hearing conservation
A series of auditory demonstrations that illustrate fundamental concepts in acoustics (e.g., frequency, sound level, tonal and broadband noise sources, A-weighting, octave band filtering, audiometric test frequencies, and simulated hearing loss demonstrations). Narration tracks alternate with signal tracks to allow the collection to be used in its entirety as a stand-alone lesson as well as a source of independent sound files. This is downloadable - used to be a CD.
Conservation and biodiversity
Dr. Richard Field research interests lie in conservation, biodiversity and the forces that structure ecological communities.
In this podcast, Dr Field from the School of Geography compares and contrasts his experiences as a researcher in national parks in Honduras and Indonesia, and the different types of ecological communities he has studied, and goes on to introduce the emerging field of conservation bio-geography.

Tropical Ecology and Conservation
This seminar plus field work in Costa Rica is designed to give students with an in-depth understanding of tropical ecology and conservation biology. More specifically it provides students the opportunity to (1) read the original literature, (2) give oral presentations, (3) design and write a research proposal, and (4) gain hands-on research experience in Costa Rica. Here are what the students say are the highlights of the course: 1. Learning how to write a proposal and executing that project. 2.
Energy Conservation
Students are introduced to the idea that energy use impacts the environment and our wallets. They discuss different types of renewable and nonrenewable energy sources, as well as the impacts of energy consumption. Through a series of activities, students understand how they use energy and how it is transformed from one type to another. They learn innovative ways engineers conserve energy and how energy can be conserved in their homes.
