A rare disease in which cicatricial (scarring) alopecia of the scalp is associated with widespread keratosis pilaris particularly in the axillae and pubic area where scarring does not usually occur. The scarring in the scalp may be clinically indistinguishable from the end stage of other forms of scarring hair loss.

5.3 Mitochondrial adaptations
Hibernation is an ingenious adaptation that some animals employ to survive difficult conditions in winter. This unit examines the differences between hibernation and torpor, and discusses the characteristic signs of hibernation behaviour. It explores the triggers that bring on hibernation, and whether internal signals or external season cues are predominant.
