This is because the method assumes that in all important respects, all human beings are the same, and the effects of the intervention in one case should be the same in all cases. It is a method that belongs to objectivity. 1.2 Definitions of ‘normality’ What do we mean when we say something is ‘normal’? The historian Edward Shorter puts it graphically: If there is one central intellectual reality at the end of the twentieth century, it is that the biological approach to psychiatry – treating mental illness as a genetically influenced disorder of brain chemistry – has been a smashing success. By monitoring the color of reflected light via satellite, scientists can determine how successfully plant life is photosynthesizing. A measurement of photosynthesis is essentially a measurement of successful growth, and growth means successful use of ambient carbon. Until now, scientists have only had a continuous record of photosynthesis on land. But following three years of continual data collected by the SeaWiFS instrument, NASA has gathered the first record of photosynthetic productivity in

This movie presents the VAULT imagery in the context of simultaneous multi-mission observations. We zoom-in to a subset of the image which focuses on an active solar region which shows plumes of hot gases rising above the solar surface.
Recent satellite images have revealed two new icebergs floating off the Antarctic coast. The icy behemoths are fragments of the Ninnis Glacier. This NASA fact sheet uses text and remotely sensed imagery to describe the events of January 2000, in which a large tongue of the Ninnis Galcier broke off and split into two gigantic icebergs. The breakup of the Ninnis Glacier Tongue has important implications regarding the Antarctic Ice Sheet's potential response to global climate change and its effect

This competency standard covers the skills and knowledge
required to monitor field staff activities and co-ordinate responses to security
incidents. It requires the ability to systematically control field staff activity,
formulate and implement security responses, and review and report on operational
effectiveness. This work would be carried out under limited supervision within
organisational guidelines.

This lesson is the second of two that explore cellular respiration and population growth in yeasts. In the first lesson, students set up a simple way to indirectly observe and quantify the amount of respiration occurring in yeast-molasses cultures. Based on questions that arose during the first lesson and its associated activity, in this lesson students work in small groups to design experiments that will determine how environmental factors affect yeast population growth.

The Professional Learning Community model has moved to the forefront in the field of education as one of the most effective frameworks to improve student achievement and overall school success. “When a school or district functions as a professional learning community (PLC), educators within the organization embrace high levels of learning for all students as both the reason the organization exists and the fundamental responsibility of those who work within it” (Dufour, 2006, p. 3).
