The writer tells Mrs. Sage that the Newsboy's Club charity campaign is badly managed and recommends a donation to another charity, the Memorial House for Boys Committee.,E. This 2:21 video explains the importance of Thomas Paine to the Revolutionary War movement. It tells what he wrote in Common Sense, his famous 47 page pamphlet, and how he argued for American independence. He said that gaining independence would be a victory for humans everywhere.
Edward Henry Potthast - "TheShade", ca. 1920
Ira Spanierman discusses Cincinnati-born artist Edward Henry Potthast (1857-1927) who moved to New York in the 1890s. The Shade, ca. 1920, is one of his most famous paintings by Potthast that depicts beachgoers enjoying themselves in the sun. Potthast was famous for his paintings of leisurely scenes at the beach, which he painted almost exclusively. This is a short video, but may have value to understanding the painter and how some of them favor one subject area or location.
