Land on the Run
Students learn about landslides, discovering that there are different types of landslides that occur at different speeds from very slow to very quick. All landslides are the result of gravity, friction and the materials involved. Both natural and human-made factors contribute to landslides. Students learn what makes landslides dangerous and what engineers are doing to prevent and avoid landslides.
Time Dilation Video
Is time different to observers moving at different speeds? For more information, see the World Year of Physics 2005 feature.
Video Transcript: Two spaceships are traveling together through the galaxy at close to the speed of light. Mounted on one ship is a laser that can fire pulses of light, and on the other, a mirror. The pilot of the first ship fires a pulse at the mirror, and watches as it is reflected back. A clock on board measures how long the round trip takes.

Billy Bob Buzzard Read-Aloud Online Storybook
This read-aloud is Billy Bob Buzzard written by Terry Barnett Williams and illustrated by My Way in Education. In this story Billy Bob Buzzard likes to swing and sing. Everyone learns to be ok with being different. There is a pause, next, back button on each page. Each word is highlighted as it is read by narrator. This is a good resource to help build a literacy rich environment in the elementary classroom. It would work well in a listening
Lasers Defying Gravity :: University of Rochester
Institute of Optics professor Chunlei Guo has discovered a way to make liquid flow vertically upward along a silicon surface. The technique can limit the amount of blood necessary to complete blood tests, because one drop of blood could run up a sensor and spread out. Read more at http://rochester.edu/news/show.php?id=3566
Probability, Permutations and Combinations
Students learn about probability by exploring relationships in a deck of cards. They start with basic concepts in probability and move on to permutations and combinations. Students apply their understanding of probability by pretending to be software engineers who are designing the scoring system for a card game.

3.3 Task breakdown chart The task breakdown technique is a very logical approach to identifying the tasks involved in a project. Some people may find it suits them better than using mind maps; other people may find the techniques complement each other. To do a task breakdown chart, first draw a box at the top of a page with the project title inside it. Then mentally identify the main elements that go to make up the project as shown below. Scientists call them "polar auroras" (or "aurorae polares"). In northern latitudes, the effect is known as the aurora borealis, named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for north wind, Boreas. It often appears as a greenish glow or sometimes a faint red, as if the sun was rising from an unusual direction. The aurora borealis is also called the northern polar lights, as it is only visible in the North sky from the Northern Hemisphere. This work is licensed under a Creativ
Businesses are increasingly making explicit their committment to dealing with ethical concerns. This unit explores the business case for an ethical approach to human resources management and examines whether a more 'human-centred' approach can bring dividends, and how an ethical approach fits within an organisation's strategy.
