This book is a very useful and welcome addition to the current proliferation of literature on the theme of personalisation. It acknowledges the challenges represented by both the defining of, and ultimate embedding into practice of, personalisation.

This Teaching & Learning Research Briefing presents the findings of a two-year study based in the Institute of Education at the University of Stirling. As part of the Interplay project, funded by the ESRC, the aims were to ‘identify ways of enhancing young children’s experiences with Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) through guided interaction with practitioners’. It explores how this can fit into the ‘pre-school culture of child-initiated learning through play’.

Fractions: difficult but crucial in mathematics learning
This resource highlights and discusses children’s common difficulties when learning about fractions. It provides details of the results of surveys which suggested that children have an intuitive understanding of fractions when they relate to division situations. This understanding was explored and used as a basis for a teaching programme which was found to support children’s further learning.
