Urbanization, Uncertainty and Water: Planning for Arizona's Second Hundred Years
On January 24, 2012, the Water Resources Research Center held its annual conference, Urbanization, Uncertainty and Water: Planning for Arizona's Second Hundred Years, in the University of Arizona Student Union Memorial Center Ballroom, Tucson. Arizona's urban areas are growing and some predict that a metropolitan region eventually will extend from Prescott, through the Phoenix area cities, Pinal County and the Tucson area, to south-central Cochise County. The conference addressed many of the vit

What Happened to Collaborative Design?
In this paper we present the results of a comprehensive literature survey on the development of collaborative design. We reviewed 324 papers on collaborative design, taken from various sources (conferences, journals, and PhD-theses). We grouped the papers based on common themes, and in that way derived a classification of themes through the last 25 years (1983-2008). Each category is described, its development, and key publications are identified.

Media and Design Process [Conference Proceedings]
Throughout known architectural history, representation, media and design have been recognized to have a close relationship. This relationship is inseparable; representation being a means for engaging in design thinking and making and this activity requiring media. Interpretations as to what exactly this relationship is or means have been subject to debate, disagreement and change along the ages. Whereas much has been said about the interactions between representation and design, little has been

Official website of a common word
This is the official website of ‘A Common Word’, a letter drafted and signed by a large group of Muslim scholars, clerics and intellectuals in reaction to the controversy raised by Pope Benedict the XVI’s message in Regensberg on the 13th of September, 2006. The name ‘Common Word’ refers to a Quranic verse (3:64) which calls on followers of other Abrahamic religions to come together with Muslims and agree on common ground and shared values. Making Muscle: Tissue Engineering in MUSC's Department of Surgery
By: mcgheek Samir Fakhry, M.D., Chief of MUSC's Division of General Surgery, and Michael Yost, PhD, Associate Chair of Research in MUSC's Department of Surgery, discuss the promise of engineered tissues for the treatment of surgical and trauma patients. Engineered tissue can instruct the body to regenerate native tissue instead of generating scar, improving cosmetic and functional outcomes. Bioprinters, 3D printers for living tissue, will help realize the promise of engineered tissue for clinica
O Design de Informa??o na Web 2.0: A interface Resultante de uma Constru??o Coletiva [Design Informa
We will address the challenges of design information in designing interfaces and functional dynamics considering a content part of the collaboration of users whose commitment to the project reaches various levels. The use of a well-structured iconography and the availability of help, shortcuts and tutorials are some of the resources already exploited, however, there is still room for reflection on the use of visuals and sounds aimed at facilitating the navigability on such projects. Here are som
From Intuition to Precision
Design has been described as making inspire decisions with incomplete information. True, we may use prior knowledge, we may even think we understand the causalites involved, but what really matters is exploration: of new forms, of new materials, and speculation about the response to the resulting effects. Essentially, this exploration has its own dynamics, involving intuition and spontaneity, and without which there is no design. But of course we all know that this is not the whole story. Design
