The University of Memphis "Creating the Future: Reducing The Impact of Musculoskeletal Infections"
Ashley Parker, a Ph.D. student in biomedical engineering at the University of Memphis, is creating a future with fewer traumatic wound infections. She is developing a degradable drug delivery system that can be tailored for each patient directly in the operating room to help control and minimize traumatic infections. Ashley's goals are for this research to help reduce the impact of musculoskeletal wound infections for civilian and military patients and change the way these infections are treated

On September 1, 2012 a new law took effect in Maryland requiring all newborns to be screened for Critical Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD).

Arun Ghosh, Purdue's Ian P. Rothwell Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, designed a new molecule to treat Alzheimer's disease. The molecule is a highly potent beta-secretase inhibitor with unique features that ensure it goes only to its target and does not affect healthy physiological processes.
