Dual-phase steel water quenched from 750°C
Dual phase steel annealed at 750°C for 5mins and then water quenched to room temperature. The microstructures revealed that the carbides are not dissolved at this low intercritical temperature and some undissolved pearlite lamallae can still be observed. Austenite is visible at grain boundaries and the martensite has been tinted by the application of second tint-etch. Martensite appears straw-coloured. Some M-A constituents can be clearly seen by the application of this step-etching technique.
21L.455 Classical Literature: The Golden Age of Augustan Rome (MIT)
Roman Literature of the Golden Age of Augustus Caesar, produced during the transition from Republican to Imperial forms of government, was to have a profound and defining influence on Western European and American societies. These writings ultimately established lasting models of aesthetic refinement, philosophical aspiration, and political ambition that continue to shape modern cultures. This class will be exploring the Golden Age of Latin Literature from an historical perspective in
The package was written in 1996. Radio immuno assay (RIA) is a technique for measuring concentrations of antigens. Although better techniques have subsequently been developed from it, understanding RIA forms the basis for understanding these derivatives. RIA belongs to the family of competition assays which are widely used in science, medicine and related industries to measure the concentrations of biologically active molecules. This package introduces the concepts of RIA and will be useful to a
Psychology of Early Design in Architecture
Lately there has been a good deal of emphasis on the early stages of the design process, particularly by developers of computer aids and quantitative design models for both evaluation and generation of designs in a variety of domains. Yet, there is little understanding of the early design-process. While the early design process as manifested by human designers need not be the sole basis of the description of this phase, it certainly represents and important kernel of knowledge, especially for th
Poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) porous scaffold for tissue engineering.
The patients own cells are seeded onto the scaffold and allowed to attach and start producing new bone. The construct is implanted into the defect site, where eventually the polymer will biodegrade and be completely removed, leaving a natural autogenous bone graft. This technique is particularly useful for large defects, or where the host bed is compromised due to disease, although it is still at the research stage. Average Pore Size 350-550 micrometre, porosity estimated at 35-45%.
Healthy Living - Breathing Techniques
Miranda Thew from Leeds Met talks us through a useful breathing technique that will help to keep you relaxed and stress free.
Introduction to Atomic Spectrometry
An introduction to atomic spectrometric analysis, describing the basic principles of each technique, their application areas and modes of operation, including practical comparison of the techniques. It is illustrated with simple diagrams and photographs of equipment.
Visual Anthropology CSAPOER
This module is concerned with how anthropology can contribute to - and gain insight from - the analysis of visual forms of representation; it is an introduction to anthropology through an examination of the ‘ways of seeing’ across-cultures and to the methods used for gathering information about other cultures’ ‘visual systems’. The module introduces how different cultures are depicted in a range of media, in particular ethnographic film and photography, and deals with the analytical an
Delivering Sustainable Development Activity 11: Education for Sustainability 1
This activity will allow an examination the relationships between education, participation and sustainable development in both the formal educational institutions and in the informal educational spaces created by attempts at lifelong learning.
Introduction to Chromatography
An introduction to chromatographic analysis, describing the different types of chromatography, their application areas and basic principles of operation. It is illustrated with simple diagrams, photographs of equipment and chromatograms illustrating practical aspects of the technique.

Painting with Negative Space and Silhouettes
Here's another technique. A great number of people find it easier to see or find images in shapes rather than from lines. When drawing from line the mind often gets caught up in symbols, whereas when focusing on contour or silhouettes it does not. For this reason it's worthwhile to paint the space around a person or object. (6:36)
Dog examination techniques
This presentation has been developed to introduce veterinary students to the process of carrying out a systematic physical examination in canine patients. It is designed to act as an introduction to these processes and procedures only, giving the students a framework from which to work as they develop and refine these skills throughout the veterinary course. Physical examination is a key skill which will be used throughout a veterinary surgeon's career and is a key determinant in selecting diagn
