Learning outcomes After studying this unit you should be able to: recognise the interaction of human and physical processes in the making of environments and the understanding of environmental issues; understand coastal regions as dynamic and contested environments; consider the contested nature of coastal management policies using the case study of managed retreat. Except for third party materials and otherwise state Introduction We begin this unit by looking at an estuary, a place where sea, land and sky meet. We have chosen a particular estuary: the Blackwater estuary on the Essex coast in eastern England. Although the Blackwater has its own unique characteristics, it is used here as a setting, a device for approaching the study of environments. Like any other estuary, the Blackwater brings together a diverse range of processes, elements and issues that constitute the environment. It offers us a way into thinking ab 4.2 Feminist perspectives: who counts as a refugee? The UN Convention has a very narrow definition of a ‘refugee’, which does not ‘accommodate those people who are forced to leave their country of origin because of economic and/or social disruption caused by environmental, political or economic turmoil or war. These are precisely the reasons that propel most refugees from the underdeveloped South’ (Lewis, 2003, p. 327). If we examine this definition further through a feminist theoretical perspective, we can see how social pol Cerebellar Degeneration - Motor Exam - Muscle Tone Sub-exam - Patient 3 Medial Aspects of Cerebral Hemispheres Working for the Triangle Shirtwaist Company Elsherbeni Receives Distinguished Research and Creative Achievement Award El Sistema Solar laura Unrelated viral ribonucleases recruit host Xrn1 to enact global mRNA degradation Dr. Carlos Corvalán - lecture How ice cream is made Convective Heat and Mass Transfer Music Video for Get the Math セミナー/講演会「平成23年度北海道大学大塚賞受賞者講演会」の映像を公 Revised Intro Video UTMC Executive Chef Scott Sundermeyer Demonstrates Benefits of Tea Drinking Bernini, Apollo and Daphne, 1622-25 - Smart History at Khan Academy Why study Law at University if I want to become a lawyer?

In this oral history interview conducted by historian Joan Morrison, Pauline Newman told of getting a job at the Triangle Company as a child, soon after arriving in the United States from Lithuania in 1901. Newman described her life as an immigrant and factory worker. Like many other young immigrant workers, she chafed at the strict regulations imposed by the garment manufacturers. One of the greatest industrial tragedies in U.S. history occurred on March 26, 1911, when 146 workers, mostly young
