Chef Johnny Hernandez, who graduated from The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in 1989, was named one of the top five Latino Chefs in the United States by Siempre Mujer magazine. He is the executive chef and owner of one of San Antonio's most popular restaurants, La Gloria Ice House, which is adjacent to the CIA's San Antonio campus. Newly discovered rice gene a boon for global food supply
Sept. 13 - Scientists in the Philippines say their recent discovery of a gene that boosts phosphorous levels in rice could have a profound impact on developing nations affected by climate change and poor soil. ISS Update: JAXA Small Satellite Orbital Deployer

When new energy-efficient lights were installed in the wolf diorama, they created new shadows that weren't consistent with the scene—a moonlit December night on the southern shore of Gunflint Lake in northern Minnesota. Here, Museum artist Stephen C. Quinn adds various pigments to the "snow" to re-create the illusion of shadows that would result from the Moon casting its eerie blue light on the wolves and surrounding trees.
